CHOOSING A STORAGE FACILITY
When choosing a storage facility consider the
following points:
Friendly, Professional Staff.
Storing at a facility with a friendly, well
trained and professional staff is important . Remember, how you are treated is
as important as where you store.
Location
It’s inevitable the items in storage need to be accessed from time to time (see
Packing & Storage Tips to minimize trips to the storage facility), so it is
important the storage facility is either close to home or work. Most of the
national chains tend to be close to major highways where they are visible
(important from marketing point of view) but not necessarily convenient for the
customer as mileage easily ads up when trying to reach these places from the
nearest exit. Another point to consider is that prime real-estate close to major
highways is expensive which will be reflected in the rents at these locations.
Drive-up vs. Indoor
The garage door type drive-up facilities are convenient from an accessibility
point of view, loading and unloading is easy. The downside is access during rain
and snow. Also the outdoor facilities go through extreme and sudden temperature
changes which is not good for certain items, particularly veneered furniture.
Other factors to consider are extreme humidity, security and lighting.
Sq. ft. vs Cubic ft.
Most
facilities quote rates on spaces in terms of square feet. Its important to keep
in mind that goods will be stacked on top of each other so unit height is just
as important. Many of our storage units have extra high ceilings which provides
more total storage area for you.
